Biography

Mike Tinker is a Senior Research Scientist with the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. His background is in Radiation Dosimetry and Health Physics Instrumentation. Initially hired in 1978, Mr. Tinker transferred to the Health Physics Department in 1984 and began his education in radiological science. He was certified with the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologist (NRRPT) in 1997 and continued his education at Washington State University where he received his bachelor of science in biology. Current activities include; team lead for radiological calibrations of radiation portal monitors at various US Customs border crossings, seaports and international mail facilities. Training instructor for US Customs and foreign Customs and border guards (foreign country deployments). Research activities in Optically Stimulated Luminescence Dosimetry (OSL technologies). Steering committee member for PNNL’s Voluntary Protection Program and Integrated Operations System (IOPS) Administrator for multiple PNNL facilities. He has been an active member of the Health Physics Society (HPS) and Columbia Chapter HPS since 1997. Mike is dedicated to science and is ever striving to learn and promote a better understanding of Health Physics to others.
